It is interesting because it seems only to head towards a contradiction. If enough American planes crash, other countries will not let them in their airspace which will obviously affect their bottom lines, so which action will they choose?

If more commercial planes crash, people will be scared and fly less, which will make the airline CEOs and their companies less rich, which may in fact be the only thing that could motivate them to intervene.

Worth noting that the airline trade group supported privatizing the ATO under Trump 1. Moving to a user-based fee system would allow them to direct resources away from rural airports and toward urban, high use, airports.

The politics of this were really weird. Business aviation, small plane owners, first responders, local and regional chambers, and air tankers opposed this while the ATC union, national chamber, and GOP supported it.
