Never should’ve been accepted in the first place. We have our own currency. And we shouldn’t have to take our time and pay the fees to go get your currency exchanged into ours.
If you’re on the border foreign currency pops up all the time. I’m in Michigan and taking the occasional Canadian change mixed in wasn’t really a big deal. Different times.
Just spent four months in Mexico and watched half the Americans I encountered have snit fits about the exchange rate being offered by vendors who barely have a pot to piss in.
In my regular life I’m not far from the border and yes, you get used to seeing USD. But also yes… different times.
Or at least make them play by the rules of the game they impose on everybody else. Isn't that "American exceptionalism" in a nutshell? "Everybody else in the world has to bend over for the ugly Americans, but we do whatever we want in your country."
I'm resisting with every consumer bone I have - spending on necessities and local stores only. What he has done is contrary to everything we stand for.
Not so impactful these days. Sure you can’t perform what is essentially a magic trick for a Gen Z cashier: “Behold! I shall buy these goods with a paper rectangle with Benjamin Franklin’s face!” 🤷
No, I know. It just always struck me as weirdly rude to go into Canada with US dollars and just assume it would work. I know many merchants took them, but... it always felt disrespectful.
It's not many...it's damn near all of them. I was only told once my American card wasn't accepted but they took American cash. And that was at a Dollaroma...so yeah
Anyway, just at the moment Canada's run by a professional banker and the US... really, really isn't, so I strongly prefer to have CAD instead of USD as much as possible!
I’m pretty sure the reason Trump wants Canada as a 51st. State is the same reason Putin wants Ukraine. Dictator do not like democracies on their doorsteps.
Canadians are dealing with a convicted felon. Two things that are absolutely not open for discussion and will never be mentioned, Canada's resources and our sovereignty are not for sale.

Makes sense since U.S. currency may be losing some value soon.
That’s why they should wait a while before putting 47 on currency. He can be on the new $1,000 bill, roughly equivalent to Can$10.
As an American watching this orange oligarch regime destroy our nation and try to destroy our neighbors I can only as a decent and compassionate human being say to the countries that are RESISTING a loud THANK YOU. But I say FUCK YOU to those who voted for this cluster fuck.
Hmm, I haven't seen anyone use actual "currency" at a store cash in Canada for a very long time. Some people must, but nowadays everything seems to be done by debit or credit card or respective phone apps.
Well, if anyone thought the orange felon was "playing games" then I suggest they wake up because the rest of the world isn't playing games either and neither is putin
What trump and his parasites are doing to Canada is no different than your best friend stabbing you in the back. I hope one day, in the not-so-distant future, we can repair the damage that's been done. I'm married to a Canadian, and what's happening is infuriating and heartbreaking.
I'm an American who stands with #Canada against a #Fascist, a #Rapist and a man who would do harm to both ourselves and our neighbors. I call upon ALL AMERICANS to do what is right and stand boldly with our brothers and sisters in the North who have stood by us for over 200 years. #SaveCanada

(Seriously, why do people try to use US currency in Canada? Which part of “not the US” is unclear?)

USA residents no longer welcome in CA
What bee got under Trump’s bonnet to have him go after both Greenland and Canada? Does he have a thing for snow? Reindeer? Dog sleds?
