I would tell people: "Because I don't want to breathe the same air of people who keep voting for these 'dumpster fires floating in a flood' excuses for leaders."
I should also add that my kids still wear N95s at school, and thus far with the exception of my youngest for a couple of days recently, haven't taken a single sick day this year.
I share the air with about 3000 school children every week. I mask there and recognize it is still higher than average weekly exposure. I have had one respiratory illness since this started. Daughter caught covid at her work and shared.

I dunno, why do people still wear skinny jeans? I don't need to ask. Obviously it's working for them.
I *still* get asked that frequently at work by people who see and know me as "the one person left who masks"
