Additional context: these are leading edge (most advanced lithography) fabs, ~ $15 billion each. TSMC is required by local law to deploy fabs in Taiwan first.
TSMC’s dominance is not a forgone conclusion. Intel is building at least two and up to four fabs in the US next year of comparative tech.
I have conflicting thoughts about this: on one hand it pushes the West to further commit to Taiwan's defence. On the other hand it's like putting even more eggs in the same basket.
