I don't have a sense of how they handle that but it will be a headache, given UK govt wants its own tough "control" message but rightly took care at conference to be clear about racism & legitimate concerns

Starmer could try to make clear that the illegal immigration situation is very different to the UK? (US 11m, UK <1m) (Not saying he should, what Trump will attempt is horrifying and should be condemned. I think, yet again, Starmer may appear as someone who has no real convictions or beliefs).

Who is going to buy a human rights lawyer being cool with what Trump will attempt? If he’s lucky he’ll be seen as sensible for avoiding provoking Trump, or he’ll just be seen as spineless and someone who won’t stand up for their beliefs.

I honestly expected better. Whilst grumpy with his Brexit stance, I couldn't have foreseen him rowing in so strongly behind Netanyahu's actions. More fool me.

As to Trump, I've no idea what UK red-lines may be drawn, if any. (Or whether Starmer will align with EU or US values). Uncomfortable times.

He strikes me as totally lacking confidence in any kind of convictions. Too scared to nail his colors to the mast on any issue except “competence”.
