My favorite cover out of those four is X-Men 142. I've always loved John Byrne's artwork. When I told Dave Cockrum and his wife that they didn't have very kind words for him. But you cannot deny the art was simply fabulous!
My favorite storyline was the Dark Phoenix Saga as well.
That’s interesting, I bet there are so many bullpen stories that we’ll never hear. DOFP and Phoenix are killer stories. I recently finished my Claremont Run read through and it’s crazy how much plot they got through per issue back then! Love them both.
Oh, and I read some interviews from a 1982 set of books where interestingly both Byrne and Claremont referred to Days of Future Past as “Future History.”
X-Men 141/142 are a different timeline now. Kitty changed history, while leaving some elements within that former timeline still possible, like mutant hunting Sentinels.
I find with the X-Men nothing is ever set in stone. Their future history is always changing.
