After all these years, I finally tried Factorio, which should be totally in my wheelhouse. I hated every second of it: Move a dude around, gather resources like an RTS, craft stuff, and when I had to load a gun and kill enemies I couldn't take it anymore.
I'm sure it's a good game given the huge amount of positive comments I've read over the years, but the reality of the game clashed really hard with what I had in my head. I was expecting a Sim-City like experience combined with some kind of factory systems.
It's easy to dismiss an experience like that, but it's even more interesting to try to think past that and see how something you hated could become so popular and loved by others (it's almost like real life with the recent elections!).
I'm not a gamer but I like to play games sometimes. I could play for hours if it is a nice 8bit platformer, Solitaire or Quake 3 Arena deathmatch. But I absolutely hate (text) adventures or M.U.L.E. while friends of mine love them. Wouldn't compare that to the things I dislike about real life. 😉
