Fox NewsTobin Smith wrote a book Foxocracy where apparently he describes their tactics (I read an article summary). As an entertainment broadcast, they designed viewers “conquest,” to raise the dopamine. This to me is the reason they whataboutism and there’s no flexibility in thinking. They must win
Trump voters would rather die than admit they were wrong. The real answer is most Americans are progressive, policy by policy. They don't want a political label but they are. If someone fights to activate the base, particularly the left with working class policies, they'll bring out lots of casuals.
I don’t agree on that as an absolute. The regret is already there. Just anecdotal evidence in my personal life, but canary in coal mine stuff. Myself, I try to discern my rage about their votes from the current signal(s) many are now sending. Look at poll numbers about Gulf of America, etc.
The biggest mistake we've made in the left is look at MAGA as a monolith. There are radical neo-nazis there for sure. But there are also a lot of disillusioned people who've been sucked in by the cult, in part due to a lack of messaging on our side.
People are so (understandably) angry at the amorphous whole that it becomes myopic, plus there’s a reflexive “we’re the smartest, and correct” security blanket when processing defeat and broad critique.
