Long ago, in a galaxy far far away—by which I mean Minnesota—I got a job at Prudential insurance, reading claim forms for a class action lawsuit. There were hundreds of us, and we worked in small cubicle and read handwritten forms about exactly how the insurance agent had screwed people over.

Fine, whatever. I thought “he has good taste” and did not stop to think that cleaners handwriting letters and sending them via the internal post to someone whose information he had to look up—we didn’t get nameplates—was a trifle odd.
