I have a pretty large garden, and have had over 30 different species come visit, so that's my starting point. But it's nice to paint and draw birds from elsewhere, especially to give as gifts to people from there.

A range of brands, but mostly polychromos and luminance. But you still get great results from cheaper brands. My suggestion would be to buy a handful of single pencils from varying brands in the same colour (white) and see how each one works, and is the best for you in your style.

Wow! Coloured pencil art is possibly the style/medium I find most impressive. It's likely where everyone began at 3 years old, but none but a few could every quite figure out. You certainly did. Beautiful. I love how it almost blends into the soft gradient background.

What paper did you use and was it toned? I like Bristol, but it doesn't produce the results the way I would like and mixed media tends to be a bit toothy for my flavor, so I'm just curious on paper type.

This was on Strathmore toned grey. I'm definitely prefer a sheet with as smooth as possible finish, just down to the way I work.

Yes that's why I prefer Smooth Bristol. The back side is very smooth. I loved the Strathmore Toned series, but is very toothy (in my opinion). At least compared to Bristol. Lol.

It's hard to get a toned paper that's truly smooth. The Strathmore toned grey isn't so bad, especially compared to the Strathmore Grayscale which is more like a canvas than paper, and ruins any kind of detail work!

Cansons black drawing paper seems smoother than other blacks, if ur into white/light colors on dark. But sides that I agree with you on the Toned series.

Try not to push too many light colours over multiple layers of darker ones. Try using an opposite colour for shading rather than using a black or a grey.
