The private prison business model uses iliteracy rates as one of the metrics for guaging how many prisons to build.

Private prisons should not exist. It encourages bad behavior on the part of the company/board. If the state is going to punish someone then the state should carry out the sentence.

This reminds me of a friend I once had in the early 2000s. Her father was a V.P. of Walgreens, and she held a great deal of stock in the company. She would cackle with glee when it was flu season and people were lined up buying medicine, etc.

I wonder how she viewed the pandemic.
