Well, they get laid as an egg first. Then they hatch as caterpillars before being "born" as a butterfly. So, three times? Mind you, those are my observations & guesses. Probably not what the official entomologists would say.

Absolutely 🦋
Considering there's still caterpillars who have not been identified in their adult forms, I think it's more than fair to give each stage it's own life.
