I was a poll observer & witnessed dozens of provisional ballots. The vast majority had to do with NC’s voter ID law. I’d like to see more reporting on how the requirements impacted turnout. My takeaway from the gig was that there’s bipartisan hatred of the DMV & folks avoid it like the plague

Glad to see some reporting on this. While the analysts seem to agree that the impact was small, there have been several races with incredibly small margins. I hope there’s a continued focus on educating voters about the requirements and fixing the DMV.

As a poll worker, I wish there was more communication about the free voter ID a voter can get from their county's board of elections. Wake County did make an effort to host voter registration and voter ID events at libraries.

I agree and think county BOEs and GOTV groups did a great job communicating the requirements and ID options. But, there is always going to be a portion of the electorate who doesn’t get that info or can’t make the time to get an ID. I’m left wondering how much that impacted turnout

I took my 20 yo took get his ID bc he had a permit but never got his license so it was expired, and a lot of his friends don’t drive either- young ppl who don’t drive and aren’t in college probably don’t have an ID (especially if under 21)

In North Carolina, the permit or license can be used as voter ID as long as it isn’t expired more than a year from election day. I’m glad he was able to get the free ID.

The DMV has been a nightmare since Covid. I haven’t checked recently, but over the summer it was impossible to make an appt (always all booked) and the wait times were often crazy. At least they provide wait times online. But they need to find more staff/locations.

I do not. So far as I know the State Board of Election does not make that info public, it's something the county boards of election would have and idk if it's shared anywhere

Since it's a statewide race, assuming the final margin is within 0.5% either way, there will be a mandatory automatic recount

The Newby-Beasley recount in 2020 led to a total margin shift of 5 votes

There will also absolutely be litigation, which will be considered by the R-dominated Court of Appeals that Griffin sits on, and the R-dominated Supreme Court he'd potentially be joining

All statewide seats didn’t go Dem, but I’d argue the most important ones did. GOP won Ag, Labor, and Insurance Commish, Auditor, and Treasurer. We won Gov, Lt Gov, AG, Sec of State, and Super of Ed.

Look at these results though, everything is sooo close, within like 100-400k votes. The biggest blowout was Gov, the rest are within about 4 percent, and there’s no big drop off of votes after Gov- so it’s truly a lot of split ticket voters

Dems appear to have kept a Senate seat that looked like it was flipping on Election Night – so Ds broke the supermajority in the House, and Rs have exactly a supermajority in the Senate (any defectors voting no sustains a veto)

The GOP not having supermajority and a Dem governor is legit about the best we can realistically hope for in NC bc of GOP gerrymandering. We really need to heavily invest in taking back the state Supreme Court, 2022 was really a nightmare for fixing gerrymandering here.
