Or if it had been written by somebody with depression with nssi tendencies. Or if someone with nssi has been asked. I love that Star Trek explores these topics in a mainstream light. Sometimes tho, I also wish someone with intimate knowledge of the topic were involved.
Yep! And that’s EXACTLY why Lineage is one of my favourite episodes. It was written by a former medical doctor and, as someone with both professional and personal experience of so many of the issues it raises 10/10, no notes.
One of the best episodes of any tv show addressing real life issues.
Ikr? I had my suspicions just because of how well it’s handled, someone in that room lived that, but I googled the guy a while back & he’s a former MD.
So much I love about it but, for me, it’s the way the adults in little B’Elanna’s life were written -
in my experience, it’s not the kids who really screw you up. It’s the nasty adults who should know better just say shit, thinking you cannot hear. No one ever writes that bit & it’s heartbreaking but absolute facts.
That guy, like me, saw how parents spoke about their kids.
I remember the awful stuff the parents would say about their kids in my hospital wards/ parent support groups.
I remember how adults would say the most horrible things, would stare when you walked in a room, how they categorised you as ‘the little girl who has that thing on her face’, it’s brutal
