To reconcile these we present an ice sheet model that allows both. This unusual situation results in open seaways connecting the Weddell and Ross seas, a mean rate of sea level rise of 3mm/yr over 2000yrs, and a total SL contribution of 6m. By comparison the AIS currently contributes c.0.4mm/yr.

The importance of this study is that it shows geometry matters. Other studies have used spatially uniform ocean warming to simulate the LIG ice sheet, but these are now proven wrong. Only with cool ocean in Weddell and Ross, but warm water in the Amundsen Sea, can this specific configuration arise.

Thanks @rkpriestley.bsky.social! It's kinda funky to look at, but somehow it *just works*. Ie it satisfies nearly all of the empirical constraints both ice-proximal and far-field (or at least, more so than any other configuration...). And we don't need cliff collapse or other untested mechanics.
