Yeah, stagnation and slow decline are the only things holding Japan back, and they could solve those problems tomorrow if they just opened the doors to immigration. A dying country that country that could revitalize itself in a heartbeat if they so choose.

The increased immigration would help with that. There are dying towns across the country that immigrants could revitalize. It wouldn’t solve all of the problems facing productivity, but it would help.

They also have a lot going against them, they are in close proximity of China and rely on a lot of naval trade to supply many of their key industries. They are extremely vulnerable to a blockade or other softer trade interdiction if China decides that they have life too easy.
