Elated to see you, Ms. Ifill! So glad to find my long-time unknowing mentor on Bluesky!
No reason to remember me from what I bet was your last pre-Covid speech in early 2020—I work with Chancellor Block, Jerry Kang and wider UCLA leadership. From your Thurgood Marshall lecture.✊🏽☺️ @sifill.bsky.social
There is an incredible amount f cruelty in these companies that has to be acknowledged. They are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and bankruptcies. United Health Group made 22 Billion dollars last year, rejecting 32% of claims.
The last decade we’ve been very publicly debating how much life matters, how much death is ok, and when should we care about death. Think Covid, #blacklivesmatter, Gaza ect. This response isn’t random. It’s where we are as a society after all of this we’ve been out through
Headlines project how stunned “THEY” are at the public’s reaction after the death of United Healthcare’s CEO by intentional gunshot:
motto - deny, defend, depose.
Maybe “THEY” haven’t been on the receiving end of a coverage denial, because many recipients can only imagine doing what that guy did.
This is frightening. The overall lack of knowledge among so many today is how history repeats itself. Too many believe what is happening is new and come up with solutions already tried and failed before. We continually try to tell them.
The outcome of the murder of this CEO is not in any sense a “victory”.
There will be more corporate security leading to the future murder of an innocent activist approaching a CEO on the street - to ask a question or challenge a policy.
Security detail will cite this case.
Courts will agree.
I'm certainly not gleeful about a CEO being targeted and killed. However, I can understand the fear, sadness, and devastation that insurance holders can endure when services are delayed or denied.
Because if this spreads, guess who will fan the flames on political grounds.
U.S. society is an extremely dangerous powder keg when it comes to the potential for political violence. Strong divisions, more guns than people, and soon an executive branch that doesn't give a shit about lawful order.
People are extremely upset. Tired of seeing their healthcare being denied then finding out the company is in the Black and the CEOs are making bank. So now the question is when the Republicans start going after Medicare and S.S. How will they justify it to their constituents?People are tired of it
Wait until Social Security, Medicare and SNAP are eliminated, and food prices shoot through the roof! Natural disaster and no FEMA and homeowners insurance unavailable. People will be homeless and starving. The rich never learn from history and the people will rise up.
I can't honestly say nor do I legitimately feel like the ppl will rise up. Bcuz 50+percent of Americans voted for trump/gop to do exactly this. So why on earth would they rise up?
I find it interesting that no one is referencing the reaction to 4 billionaires dying on the submarine on its way to the Titanic last summer. There was very little sympathy that could be found for them (except for the teenager on board.)
Republicans that think they are going to take away regular ppls SS, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, food for kids, housing etc are going to be in for a shock
There are ppl in the world that will shoot you in the back
Guaranteed 👍
The conditions that led to this should ring alarms. The political violence committed by workers 100 years ago pales in comparison to what the robber barons and Pinkertons were up to.
"The concentration of extreme wealth in the United States has recently surpassed that of the Gilded Age. And the will among politicians to push for broad public solutions appears to have all but vanished."

This death is nothing. It's a blip. Consumers will still pay high premiums for shitty service and denials of treatment.
That's quite a statement.
