Hard to get fire insurance coverage in California and if you’re not canceled you will pay 10X the amount you previously paid. SCE shuts off power with high winds so they don’t get sued and they are slow to upgrade their equipment.

SCE shut our power off at 8:00 last night here in eastern LA County, and it’s still off, though winds have subsided for some time now. SCE keeps getting permission to raise rates, but doesn’t maintain the lines. Their employees have very generous pensions, so those have to be paid first, I guess.

LA County fire department has fire mitigation policies implemented. Not sure how they affect older neighborhoods, but I had to resolve a violation of the previous homeowner after we bought our house. https://fire.lacounty.gov/forestry-fuel-modification/
