This seems to be a recurring phenomenon, particularly in the tech age.

We just got decent streaming 20 years after it was promised & still don’t have self driving cars.

While public policy should keep current in addressing the externalities of tech (ahem social media) it should not rely on tech.

Agree. I put crypto in the same category as AI. If you can’t explain its benefits in a way that us ordinary Americans can quickly grasp, it’s a “solution” looking for a problem.
