With respect Alex, this is a terrible take.

It normalizes Trump’s rhetoric, focussing mostly on the technicalities of how it could happen, minimizing the fact we’re a sovereign country. Our opposition is noted, but then the piece quickly moves on.

Garbage like this enables aggression.

I get concerns about normalization, but I think the story does a decent job of explaining why this would be so aberrant in history (and mentions Canadian opposition multiple times) which to me isn't the same thing. But I don't think there are clear lines here and I respect the disagreement!

Moreover the skeet (which is all many ppl will read) doesn’t mention opposition and instead normalizes the idea and reads without any opposition. I think we need to be concerned about framing at all levels.

Editorial choices are always being made. This was a BAD one. It didn’t “have to” be written.

This situation is akin to Russia/Ukraine.
Did this article reflect this level of seriousness? No. It mused about seat counts.

I don’t agree it’s normalizing invasion, I think it’s showing how difficult it would be and how unprecedented, as well as illustrated what the signs might be if Trump were moving forward. Even the lede makes it sound nuts!

It's an entirely spurious exercise that only serves to further legitimize the idea. There is no scenario where this would happen withput massive social unrest. If people want to know the process for incorporating a new state there are many resources available.
