I was doing that in the 20th century. Protein by protein with the dengue fever virus.
The memory stuff sounds cool and is WAY beyond my understanding.
Using lanterns has been done for a long time, but on other parts of cells (proteins, etc), while using the technique on RNA was “decades behind, so that’s a gap [the authors] wanted to fill.”

They work by using fluorescent RNA-binding proteins that light up specific RNA sequences, making it possible to see how RNA moves and functions in real time.
