Want to tackle the housing crisis WITHOUT exacerbating the climate catastrophe? Try re-purposing what we already have, like abandoned malls and big box stores. Try not allowing one person to own 50 homes. Try not allowing one family to have a house with 40 bedrooms.

You can re-purpose a big box site, but probably not the actual building which need to be altered so heavily that it would be more cost-effective to replace it.
Though dwellings around the perimeter with retail in the interior of the building would be an interesting concept.
