Agreed, love the reuse and outdoor spaces/shade but the end result is bleak architecturally. The exterior needs to be a contributor to the urban environment as a positive force.

I understood the former AFP building overlooking ANZAC Park in Canberra was designed to be repurposed into hotel accommodation- and if so, was housing also possible? It was demolished and rebuilt.

It seems a shame that the timber loggias are entirely plain & rectolinear, stripping away the few decorative touches that were there pre-conversion.

Interesting. I don’t particularly mind the old building but I appreciate I am in a minority in liking this sort of 1980s corporate vernacular. I like the wood but I don’t get residential charms at all in producing elevation which reduce human life to a series of regimented defensive boxes...

Unlike the stark curtain-wall glazing of the first structure, the second building features deep-set windows and balconies. This adds depth and texture to the façade while also providing natural shading and privacy—essential qualities in a comfortable home.
