There is no short answer to that Dan. There are innocuous normal variants and abnormal results that need no action. High potassium levels, abnormal heart rhythms or certain genetic disorders that affect electrical currents in the heart might need immediate intervention despite being symptom free.

It will only be producing a rhythm strip. Lots more 12-lead (proper) echo’s will be needed as clever watches discover things to be investigated. Let’s hope they weed out the long distance cyclists with heart rates of 35bpm! Other intensive athletes exist too.

For the uninitiated- A random ecg marked as abnormal by the machine itself. The bottom line is the rhythm strip. Everything above that line is the 12-lead result derived from a particular placement of 10 leads on the chest and limbs.
