Because what the electorate want is change. Doesn't matter if the change come from left or right. If Starmer's Labour Party is Tories 2.0, then they switch to far right.

But the Green party would be change, fundamental change, whereas Reform is more failed populism and austerity. Like I said the English electorate are stupid.

Not saying that's not true, but there is a reason why this happens. When Labour, the theoretical "centre-left", gives in to the right, it ends up legitimising their issues.

Voters see it and think "well if even Labour says that immigration is a huge problem, surely it must be".
