I think failing to keep the minimum wage a living wage is a huge factor in the extremism on the right AND the left. When one person could support a family with one full-time job, there were FAR fewer extremists wanting to burn it all down and start over. Just peg the wage to cost of living, forever. - ThreadSky

Higher minimum wages make more poverty. It is a misstatement.

The real minimum wage is always zero, laws cannot change that.

The “legal” minimum wage is a way to price unskilled labor out of job, and subsidize automation.

No, the kind of people who work minimum wage are the people who turn right around and spend the money they get. If everyone got a living wage, everyone would be buying themselves and their families nice things, going on trips, improving their homes, CREATING JOBS all the way.

I don't know if you're aware, but the minimum wage is $7.25 and has not risen in 15 years, while the cost of everything has skyrocketed. OF COURSE we now have communists recruiting our youths. OF COURSE some are joining Nazi gangs too. That's what people do when they have no hope of a decent life.

And furthermore, there is no such thing as "unskilled labor." Minimum wage jobs require specialized skills and labor just like any other work. You think YOU could keep a store looking pristine while working the till and putting up new stock? It's HARD. It's a skill.

Which is a good thing. That means fewer low skilled workers being priced out of jobs. If you paid any attention to employment statistics at all you know increases in real minimum wages always lead to more unemployment of low skilled workers.

If they cannot produce a profit for their employer they will not get hired at all. Thus the real minimum wage -0
