Not to mention the development consultancy industry. A lot of what is given as “aid” never leaves the donor country because it pays inflated salaries or fees to nationals who act as middle men. Add to this offloading agricultural surplus as food aid instead of strengthening local food systems.

Eg: the freeze on USAID means that the main clinic serving 🏳️⚧️ folks in Hillbrow (Johannesburg, South Africa) suddenly closed. Those who can’t afford private care are now at the mercy of drug & supply shortages in the public system. So most won’t get the care they need.
It would be great to see more of this.
