My twelve year old is doing resistance bands and long toss but not weighted balls. I think I’d wait for puberty to be mostly done with him to go there, and that’s a moving target, age-wise. But that might be my benchmark.

Absolutely agree that it’s a moving target. A part of what I’m writing about is how mechanics over velocity needs to be emphasized at those younger ages, and sport specialization should not happen during puberty, the literature points to that also being a major culprit in these overtraining injuries
