The game aside, that actually was kind of funny. If I was a player, I’d be chatting up my team mates on the sideline, saying, “Man, play like you’re going to get Pop Tarts, BECAUSE WE ARE!
Also, I would go over to the Miami locker room with a tray of that pop tart and say, “You all want some of this?” I mean, it’s probably a once in a lifetime chance.
The Pop-Tarts bowl asks questions that other bowls will not touch! Why are we here and why play the second half? What happens to us when we die? Is there such a thing as reincarnation? And finally Is the giving of ourselves a worthy end?
1. Bowl games are money makers for the communities, sponsors, teams
2. Bowl games are also victimized with inhospitable weather, making fan travel a toss-up depending on wind chill
3. Bowl games COULD be fun: make the selections after reg season. Then play the games in the FIRST week of the year.
No lie, I was terribly torn about the Pop-Tart Bowl. On the one hand, classic “bread and circus” decadence of a declining state. On the other, man that was a fun game with fun antics and a fun outcome. I’m really conflicted about it.

And, as a bonus, it made we want a PopTart.
The same will not be true of the Mayo Bowl, however.
