I highly recommend reading Patriot, by Alexei Navalny. The book starts in his childhood. The parallels to what is happening in the US are stark. One passage is a speech in court. He says everything is built on lies and the people in the courtroom know it but stare at the table instead of speaking up

I remember reading "The Origins of Totalitarianism" back in the sixties and thought, oh, that will never happen here. Boy, was I wrong! Hitler took over in 53 days. Trump may break that record. Let's not let him!
