I’ve never reacted well to small minded people who try to control others thoughts and speech and it makes absolutely no difference to me if they are from the right or the left.

The thing is that, we have a lot of differences, but when people come together despite those differences, that is what makes us great. I think a lot of people have forgotten that.
I'm not coming together with a tRumper unless it's to get close enough for my new katana. Those days died when the Republicans decided to go full on fascists.
The glee these fat fucks gets when they discuss subjugating women...if they make me fight side by side there's going to be a problem.
I understand that, but we may find some unlikely allies among people who start to wake up from the cult mindset because of cuts to services they need or high prices. The regime has wronged them too, even if they didn't realize it.
I'd agree with this more if we didn't live in a timeline where one side in particular has spread the narrative that just educating people on a topic is also an attempt at controlling thoughts and speech.
Of course every right has its limits. As has famously been said, one can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater if there’s no fire. There have always been defamation laws.
But none of that is what I’m speaking of, of course.
Freedom of speech is a core freedom because it is corollary to freedom of
thought and of the mind, without which we have nothing and are no more free in our minds than a Middle Ages serf was in their bodies.
There are many who believe they have all truth (a hallmark of extremism) and would dearly like to limit anyone who challenges that.
Opposing *that* is essential.
Respect under the law is often touted as "control". Like, people feel that legal compulsion to speak to people a certain way in the workplace is "control", when it isn't.
You're free to be bigoted and mean WHEN YOU CLOCK OUT, on your own time, away from your coworkers. Lol

The tolerance paradox covers this.
Also Dr. King's assessment of the well intentioned liberal is relevant here, I think.

Adults barking at other adults ought to be outlawed.
