I worked in IT for a large municipality for many years. There are very good reasons why government IT tends to be more conservative and cautious. If X goes down for a day people can just find another way to waste time, if computerized traffic systems (for example) people may actually die.

This speaks to the big problem at the heart of DOGE and Trumpism. Bureaucracy and processes and regulations and governance might be boring but they’re not wasteful. They’re how you avoid gotchas like this that range from embarrassing to existentially catastrophic.
