This isn't bullshit. There have been a lot of accessibility lawsuits against the TTC, and that was before the AODA was in full force.

It's like Ontarians with disabilities have rights. 🤷‍♂️

That’s actually a very likely reason. I know that accessibility is largely why TTC buses do not display “Merry Christmas” and other greetings like neighbouring transit agencies do but instead does placards in the front window. Everything on the route sign has to be voiced.

Yeah, same thing with MTA buses. Cycles into “fare required” every few seconds. Especially annoying if you’re waiting for a specific bus with a toddler, and can only spare a glance up every few seconds.

Probably is, because one should ways take a transfer when paying by cash (fare inspectors can ask for proof of payment whenever you are onboard a vehicle, in a subway station, or exiting vehicle.

On the other hand I see about half of the few people who pay by cash refuse a transfer (most TTC drivers hand them out instinctively like a receipt) or not ask for one, so I can see the point of the reminder (especially with recent fare inspections at bus stations so one isn’t caught by surprise)

Especially given that TTC fare evasion fines (unlike those on GO) are so high.
I would hope that they would remove it from the route signs in a month or two (the passenger info system is updated about every 6 weeks) just out a poster on the bus farebox saying “Always take a transfer”.
