Graduate programs ceasing admissions in the US due to funding being cut off is going to cause a really interesting predicament for private industry when companies want to hire trained researchers in 4-5 years.

Will they though? A lot of undergrad programs are already using international students (who use ranking lists to judge quality) to fill budget gaps. What happens to those students (and that money) when US universities plummet in the global lists because they can no longer put out the research?
Professional programs cannot consider themselves immune, either. Failure of other University systems could sunder Higher Ed. The result? College for the few rich White kids.
