I make an effort to make sure all our written reviews are they/them/their or just the anomalous "player". I don't get the default to he/him -- plenty of people of all gender fluidity play these contraptions.
There's no reason not to use second person pronouns (e.g., "on your turn, you"), even in examples. I use player colors for interactions, and singular 'they'.
