By design. If you want to take over a country, you first destroy it's belief in government and then its institutions. Then you take over the media and control what people think and talk about.
Trump walzed into the White House for the sequel and will do those things in the first two years.

This is exactly what we are facing in this Age of Denialism. Our trust in each other and the institutions that hold society together has been shattered from within and from without. The GOP shattered trust in government, corporations shattered trust in science, and foreign influence piled on.

Their gilded towers were always a temporary feature because they're based on the idea that you can keep the secrets of the universe locked up forever. You can't do that because people like us have eyes to see for ourselves now.
