LOL! When my son was small he had his own *special* dessert at the Greek restaurant we went to once a week. It was … a bowl of whipped cream. It went nicely with the ‘breakfast for supper’ they made only for him. What a nice family they were - so kind to a picky little boy.
My Sicilian family members used to do a full turkey dinner AND a full spaghetti dinner together. And then we'd have to go to one house for lunch and the other for dinner, so 4 big meals in 1 day.
Years ago my family ditched Christmas Eve dinner and replaced it with apps only. We were always too full from shrimp cocktail to eat the roast, so remove the roast and add more shrimp!
My family has done that for Christmas Day dinner the last 2 years. It's been only 3 of us, and no one wants to cook, so throwing mozzarella sticks in the air fryer, and mini corn dogs in the oven just made sense.
Here in Australia. We have turkey on christmas day along with ham. But what gets me as an Aussie. People here. Still insist on cooking there hams. In our heat. Where you already have a hot meat which may also include chicken as well. I find some Aussies weird.
Honestly, I’m probably gonna just do sides myself. Turkey is so bland and tasteless unless you cover it in gravy. No matter how much I season the damn bird with salt.
Might get a ham steak if I’m feeling feisty. But sides are good for me.
Might be the same. I have a work trip (whose brilliant idea was this??) the week of thanksgiving. Now getting in late for the festivities. The good thing is, there will be leftover stuffing 😋😂
We love turkey in our family. With stuffing inside. And all the carbs and gravy. Lots of gravy. And pie, with ice cream and whipped cream. We have a photo my son-in-law teaching his 11 month daughter how to squirt the whipped cream into her mouth directly from the can. We love the whole thing.
Ooh, I haven't had prime rib in a long time. I still like turkey but I find it a little too filling. I need smaller portions and more dark meat than light.
I’m doing the same as last year … a pecan pie, all for me. And listening to Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant (which is definitely a Thanksgiving song!).
My eldest became vegetarian and we’ve all started having roast dinners without the meat recently. It started kind of accidentally but now I don’t even miss the meat! It’s taken me quite by surprise!
We each picked what dish we want to make for thanksgiving and that’s what we’re having. So far it’s ribs, mashed potatoes, crab dip, apple crisp, yams and sushi.
Some us enjoy it. Spatchcocked and dry brined, with herb butter under the skin. Juicy and delicious. Leftovers for Turkey Rice soup and hot turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce then smothered in gravy.
I and sincerely happy for the people that truly enjoy it, I don’t want to yuck their yum. But I’m convinced we’ve spent decades forcing ourselves to “like” it out of a sense of obligation to tradition and in a weird way, patriotism.
It really depends on what your relationship with those traditions are. Talk to someone with trauma, and this answer gets very complex, especially when that trauma is wrapped up in family and holidays.
We are having turkey but only so I can use leftovers in the dressing, turkey, mashed potato & gravy layered casserole from my childhood. I need comfort food!
As a vegetarian, I’ve been having sides only since 1978! Tho we do bake little pumpkins and stuff them with wild rice and craisins and have some tofurkey!
1/2 cup of craisins
1 stalk of celery diced
1/2 tsp of onion powder
1/4 tsp sage
1 tbsp olive oil
Mix ingredients into the rice
Stuff into pumpkins and serve.
I’ve done this. I was a vegetarian for about five years, so I’d just make all the sides and a vegetarian gravy (there are some good ones, surprisingly).
Honestly, I did not miss the turkey and ham.
Well, I guess I must have because I’m no longer a vegetarian 🤷♀️
I’m a guilt-ridden carnivore.
We’re doing steak and stuffing and some veggies and apple crumble. Turkey is always the worst part of the Thanksgiving meal anyway (I said what I said)
Not making any at all lol sorry. I am doing 12 Turkeys and 4 Beef Chuck Pot Roast for student dinner. Does that count? hehe. I will get a hand out Turkey from the job but I am going to make soup with it and freeze portions for the two of us.
The sides are the best part of Thanksgiving. I can go without meat 100% of the time and besides, it’s cheaper. And fewer animals are consumed. They are evolving into sentient beings, and I don’t eat my friends. Everyone thinks I’m so weird when I say that, but that’s ok.
1. I can't condone the slaughter of the indigenous indian peoples
2. With Trump taking office, taking the rights of women, LGTBQIA++, and minorities away, I dont have a lot to be thankful for 😔
full of water??? i wanna know who’s cooking YOUR turkey…. once every ten years i get to taste a turkey that doesn’t disintegrate the moment it touches my mouth, sucking out all the moisture in my body as i try my best to squeeze it down my gullet without choking. (i love turkey)
Meat and poultry of all kinds are roughly 75% water, 20% protein and the remainder fat carb and salts. That before the meat processor or supermarket adds more water. So yes, turkey is more or less a viscous drink!
I find I most often roast something to give me gooey stuff to make fantastic roast potatoes to eat with gravy. Have a very happy Thanksgiving next week.

Lots of whipped cream.
Heck.
Who even needs pie?
I'm coming to yours for Thanksgiving!😆😂
Thank you🦃
I stopped celebrating because it's a genocide holiday.
Sounds like a plan!
Might get a ham steak if I’m feeling feisty. But sides are good for me.
You know: something with flavor.
You had me at gravy.
She and my Grandmother made the BEST turkey.
I've never looked back.
I enjoy ham.
Also I catered the Thanksgiving meal since my Mom passed.
My Sister-in-law has now been partially catering and actually cooking the meal.
She's the best!
Gotta spatchcock it or cook another way.
I go with sous vide now (breast only) cuz it’s a super low effort / high payoff way to cook it.
Also i refuse to eat stuffing that wasnt actually stuffed in a cavity and basted with pan juices
But yes the sides also!
I end up feeling full, but not in an uncomfortable way.
Bake the pumpkins until the insides are soft at 350 degrees.
2 cups of rice to 4 cups of water in a rice cooker or covered on the stove top (boil water with rice in it already, then reduce heat to a simmer.
1/2 cup of craisins
1 stalk of celery diced
1/2 tsp of onion powder
1/4 tsp sage
1 tbsp olive oil
Mix ingredients into the rice
Stuff into pumpkins and serve.
Honestly, I did not miss the turkey and ham.

Carbs and gravy.
And pie!!

I love it!!
Sign me up!😋
I could of course Google it but I will relish in your incredulity that I have no idea what it is.
