I buy a book the same way I buy a bottle of wine: do I like the little picture on the front, do I like the little blurb on the back, and does it look like it’ll % me up for $12

I don’t buy because of the label, but I also *won’t* buy if I *dislike* a label. I find ratings from a source like wine spectator helpful. The thing is, at this point, I’ve narrowed my tastes to Italian reds (Chianti or Montepulciano) and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
I like the picture on the fron
something out of Wind in the Willows
Bear Back
When I could afford to drink it was a Chardonnay with a good oak bight that exploded at the back of my throat
Since I haven't been able to afford to drink, I wonder if it's still there
Ok this is one of the FEW things I like about living in France
On the off chance I buy wine
I know 12 will get me wasted AF on the wine from the supermarket
Their box wine is actually quality too ... Except that sangria shiznit, that's boring
I absolutely judge a book by its cover, if it has one of those quirky pastel coloured covers with a hand drawn picture of a hand and a glass of wine or a cake on it, I 'know' its not for me
Wondering something like that while considering these two sobering (or, apocalyptic) gems reviewed on March 22, 2024 in the WSJ. They cost more than $12 a pop, although are doubtless worth it. Perfect gift for a US Congress Critter. 😐
Two essential reads to give elected officials are short stories: John Brunner's "Who Steals My Purse" & Ursula K. LeGuin's "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas".
Wine doesn't go with those. Whiskey maybe.
Personally if I were to give any #congress critters a gift, could be calcium supplements to ward off #spinelessness. Never seen such a bunch of grifters set to lap it up at the troughs of the next West Wing. Congress (both sides, both chambers) needs to rein that in or get booted at midterms.

The Amazon "Look inside" feature is genius for hooking me.
