To channel my inner Tom Friedman: A taxi driver in Tunisia (post-revolution, pre-Said) told me and my companions that Tunisia needed a Sisi because he saw the "projects" on TV. I got frustrated and said "the projects are *for* TV!"

I think this is partly right: a lot of people prefer an authoritarianism that has the aesthetics of getting shit done over boring liberalism
