It fits with trump’s dream of world domination. Think of hitler’s rise to power after the depression when he preyed on people’s desperation and fear. Trump’s m.o. is to create a problem, then claim only he can fix said problem, and that it will make you very rich.
My granmother is a lot older than me, she remembers the depression. I noticed when she eats a piece of cake with afternoon tea, she eats every last crumb. She got used to wasting nothing.
My wife's Grandfather once had dinner at our house and left the plate clean I asked was it that tasty he replied 'I never leave food on a plate because I've known hunger'.
