My mom was in Paris then. She went through the whole shitshow Hitler brought. She was 12 at school and they made them leave school, dismissed all the facility, and then made her watch him speak. Now some 80 years later? Here we are again. This time it’s in our front yard. Ugh… 😑

Ty. She made the best of it. She was a French spy. Immigrated to USA in 47, had met and married my dad in Europe. Became very successful. Was President of the American Business Women’s association. Lived to be in her 80’s. Married over 65 years. Very proud of her.

My dad was just as cool. Nicest man I ever met. Didn’t swear, not religious, stoic, man of action. Not a complainer. Served HQ signal battalion WWII under general Patton who won the battle of the Bulge. An amazing guy. My parents were remarkable. I’m my dad, but have my mother’s sense of outrage.

I grew up with a strong family. My dad was an army lifer, at dinner we talked politics, history, the costs of freedom. Standing up to bullies. At 69, I didn’t see this coming. A fascist president heading a racist party. Last thing I ever imagined. I’m glad my mom and dad didn’t live to see this.

I think they did know. November 1938 was Kristallnacht. It was when Germany began, in earnest, the extermination of Jewish populations. Time Magazine absolutely 'knew'

Well, we hadn't been in the war for 2 years in 1941. Pearl Harbor was attacked December 7, 1941. It was the next day we declared war on Japan and Germany
