Weird how trans and gay people are expected to respect Christians - when it’s not reciprocated. No wonder there still isn’t an out gay player in the Premier League. @premierleague

Jesus says not one word about anything LGBTQIA+, so homo/transphobic is a projected construct. Islam is actually vague, and it seems homophobic/transphobic is also projected by the hadith movement https://quran.com/en/4:16/tafsirs/en-tafsir-maarif-ul-quran. It's fundamentalism that isn't borne out by the texts, from what I can see.
Made exactly that point about Jesus multiple times over the last few years when some hockey/football goons have said they won't wear the rainbow laces/armband because "muh beliefs". Pure phobic bigotry.
It's also very lazy thinking. Whatever text I teach, I teach context as a matter of course, and the specific circumstances that led to the creation of that particular text. St Paul said some misogynist things by our standards, but the context sheds a different light on them. Not excusing him, btw.
Yes! Context is critical. Was saying just that to someone earlier on a different topic (data, which has very limited use in isolation, but add context and it becomes information).
Exactly. I have a student who is a scientist, and I had to explain that yes, the humouralism of Shakespeare is a nonsense, but the 17th century didn't have the scientific understanding that we do. While Lady M asking for thick blood is dangerous (& a metaphor), it made sense to them.
Jesus kind of did with saying "All those laws in the Old Testament, you all must follow those to the letter." which would include anti gay laws that was written in leviticus. Matthew 5:18-19
(also maybe Luke 16: 17 and 19: 16-17)
Ah Leviticus. Have you checked the label on your clothes recently? If it says poly cotton, or another kind of blend, is that in breach of Leviticus too, and if not, why not?
Are your ears pierced? If not, are you expecting those whose are to be eternally condemned?
Don't get me wrong it's a huuuuuuuge hypocrisy on their part (perfectly illustrated in the infamous West wing scene.) but unfortunately does exist in the Bible. And obviously I in no way support assholes that use it for their bigotry.
I think, unless you can read the Vulgate, every interpretation of the Bible, is just an interpretation. The problem is, you can interpret anything to mean anything. It takes skill to understand context and why it matters.
If his personal views are in conflict with the core values of the club he should relinquish the armband permanently in favour of someone who doesn’t discriminate against certain a demographic within the fanbase If he was being excluded on religious grounds I wonder what his opinion might be ?
He wasn’t told to he was asked as is evidenced by his declining their invitation
In the interests of full disclosure if you were asked to wear an LGBTQ armband would you ?
No, I don't believe I would. LGBTQ aren't my people and while they should be able to represent themselves however they want within the limits of the law, they are not owed my representation.
Thank you for confirming my own assumption about you so candidly
I will allow your personal testimony on this matter to speak for itself

alright then, not sure what this did more than further reinforce that it's a reasonable belief that anyone should be able to deny representing a group they're not apart of

Btw, I also have a tattoo...
I’d love to see him sacked
