This is a fantasy. Starmer is doing exactly what he wants to be doing, he's not got his hands tied. There was not opposition last election, he didn't need to pander to anything but his own whims and so that is what we are seeing.

Those little stories told by the media have a lot larger effect than you think, even if they are disproved it's very hard to change someone's mind if they have seen it in a paper, "news" program or online.
