Follow it with vague interest while it gains maturity and popularity, then read excellent teaching materials written by Steve (and a bunch of other people!) to make it finally make sense.

Steve’s recommendation on Rust in Production convinced me it’s worth looking in to!
But I’ve been on Debian a long time, if I had to switch now, I’d go Guix or NixOS.
