A source confirmed that the Sounders are planning to put Arriola on the season-ending injury list. That will allow them to recover about 75% of his roughly $650k cap hit.

I assumed he wasn't going to take a pay cut for being injured, just thought because MLS contracts are technically held with the league rather than the club, maybe MLS would give us some money back. Hopefully ownership will let the front office spend the money they're able to recoup under the cap
As I understand it, the guaranteed/likely payouts for each year are paid into a trust fund for the league. That fund can only disperse funds to pay players, no take backsies.
When I read the league rules about placing a player on the season ending injury list, it says that the team could replace that player on the roster with a player of equal or lesser salary. So it doesn't seem that the money just comes off the books and back into our pockets.
Good sign that the FO will be looking to add and spend the extra $$? Or just standard business practice and we are going to get “wait and see” answers about their plans?

Just tell him it’s the west part of the east coast.
