Does anyone really believe this call between Trump and Alito was just about a job reference? Yet again, the Supreme Court is showing why we need an actual enforceable ethics code — because the MAGA justices can’t be trusted.

Absolutely not! Trump would never make a call like that. That is someone else’s job. Everything is about him. That’s the only reason he would make the call.
We need Supreme Court reform beyond an ethics code. We need to do what we can to wide faith in the court, while promoting real reforms. Make it clear there are solutions, and they can be had if you vote in Democrats. An approach we need to take more broadly to government problems.
We can be clear about hurdles (the filibuster can be killed with a simple malory majority), but we need to make clear the change that needs to happen for a better society. We need to advocate for the government we want and get public pressure on our side.
We tried that with the ACA public option, voting rights and police reform if memory serves me right where they died in Senate committees. I could be wrong though. It ways seemed like popular, democratic bills needed to get beyond 60. Irrespective of public approval
We need to make primaries matter again. The party fixing primaries and insider trading are the two areas within the party that most desperately need reform. We need there to be consequences for bad actions. Politicians need to be worried about their seats, and not just from the other party.
This is where we can do better. A lot of what happened here is media pulled back and let politicians get away with not doing anything. We need to promote media that advocates for what we want and make sure we remember what they did and didn't do at elections.
I would never call a judge who was presiding over one of my cases. Even in social situations lawyers and judges involved in pending litigation must limit interactions/conversations so there cannot be even a hint of impropriety. This "call" never should have taken place. Stinks to high heaven!
Bigger point than whether it was or wasn't is that as SC Justice he is supposed to know this would create the appearance of impropriety and not do it. It was all over the news that filing was coming.
