Privatization serves only to funnel public money into private hands. It is a cash grab. Not innovation. Not better Healthcare.

I too am so grateful for 🇨🇦 universal healthcare but it’s under attack.
Author Catherine MacNeil wrote (journalists found in Ontario) …”Payments to the private clinic for knee arthroscopies were $4,037 per surgery, while the cost of this procedure in public hospitals ranges from $1,273–$1,692.”

I recall a two-tier system in Ontario in the mid-eighties where I was asked by my gp if I would accept an “extra-billing” specialist. The inference being these were the top specialists. I paid up but others could not.

Arguing against mixed systems as if the US system was the only alternative is a perpetual red herring. Most European countries have mixed public-private systems that vastly outperform ours in terms of cost, access, and outcomes. We pay in pain and lives for dogmatically standing against any reform

You need to ask yourself if the alternative system being built by current provincial governments is meant to replicate European models or whether it is meant to enrich themselves and their former colleagues on new private hospital boards. Well and good that there's mixed systems that work but...

Those aren't the systems being intentionally built here.

Regardless as a physician i know that the best outcomes I see in my patients are the ones where care is immediately available, affordable, and equitable in delivery.

Does mixed systems help or rob from the public system?
Does the public benefit from a mixed system or does benefit only go to those of privilege?
Do our politicians have the best interests of the public at heart or are they looking out for their rich buddies?
