friendly reminder that the best case scenario over the coming years is that a lot of people say "I supported Trump but this isn't what I wanted at all" and when they do that it's gonna be really, really important that we say "welcome in," not "fuck you, we told you so"

Please do not reduce healthy skepticism and discernment about trust be reduced to petty grudge holding against what is implied to be good-hearted people who were simply confused or misled (?) into supporting fascism.

No, I don’t believe “many” people supporting Trumpism under its current expressed conditions are actually potential empathetic & effective assets deep down. Maybe a few people will open prepper hoards up to people in need. Most of these types will be people taking up time & space to seek absolution.

It’s a really naive and optimistic fantasy on many levels, from the redemption of individuals to the extent of what the line too far will be for these people *years from now* which would invariably be something that finally impacted them personally that didn’t before.

There are going to be a lot of people whose regrets are not fighting Trumpism harder, sooner and that’s a fair starting ground but “I supported Trump but not *this*” + “the coming years” is a dangerously open statement with a a truly terrifying territory of possibilities.
