Anjinho (OLAF supervisory committee, formerly deputy ombudsman in Portugal and state secretary for EPP-affiliated CDS-PP) came over as competent but also technocratic. Not taking risks, avoided ruffling any feathers. Said Ombudsman should be complementary to other oversight bodies, avoid duplication

Polish ESN MEP Marcin Sypniewski asks (I paraphrase, plus Polish interpretation is poor) if introducing stronger lobby rules don't create the risk of people not abiding by them and lead to greater bureaucracy. De Capitani says the institutions should be better at enforcing their own rules.

There are 2 rounds of MEP questions for each candidate. In the first round the candidate has 3 minutes to reply, in the second round 1 minute. EPP MEP Mehnert just asked De Capitani to list (in 1 minute!) five O'Reilly priorities and five new priorities he would pursue if elected... 🤯

Unsurprisingly given his background and experience De Capitani displays a detailed knowledge of applicable EU law and sets out clear ideas on how to improve both legislation and implementation. Activist vision for the Ombudsman role has strong echoes of O'Reilly. Political but not party political.
