Anyone else got a resident male Blackbird that taps on your window to get YOU to fill HIS feeder and bath. And when he bathes it’s like he is sitting on an explosion 😳

Turdus merula, the common Blackbird was introduced to Australia in the 1860s.
Why, when we have so many endemic songbirds such as Colluricincla harmonica, the Grey Shrike-thrush?
In the garden this destructive bird lives up to its name... perhaps 'merula' should be replaced with marauder🤔
Ours doesn’t tap on our backdoor, but always appears as soon as anyone emerges w/the daily feeds. He’ll hop about close by, then come pick up food as soon as it’s laid on the table(s). He’s on good terms w/our robin, who’s eager too, but the robin is bolder & faster in to feed! Mutual respect.😊
Heaven help any bird who comes to our bird bath after the Wood Pigeon’s bathed: they leave a waxy layer on the water. But it’s pt of a necessary clean: debugs, refreshes & renews their plumage to protect it.
The sparrows go mad, groups joyously splashing!
My partner calls it Sparrow Jacuzzi Time.😂
Pedro, it’s important to keep an eye on your bird bath in🥶, esp depending on what it’s made of.
Ours is made of resin: we bought it fr/the RSPB🇬🇧.
Stone ones can crack/break!
Ours is similar to this one (see screenshot fr/Amazon in US) only w/out🐦decoration. We use hvy 🪨s on base to keep it steady.
YES! It’s absolutely VITAL: 🐦s NEED to drink-even have a bath-yr round! You must be sure to keep cracking/removing any ice layer, replacing w/clean water regularly. It’s tricky in🥶:Gently use a hammer if🧊is thick, remove🧊then add warm water. May refreeze, so you may have to repeat often.
Every day!
1 more thing: if small🐦s come to your bird bath, make sure to have a medium sz rock or 2 in the bath, to climb up on & get out. We place 2 near edge, for🐦s to hop on & in/out of water. It won’t bother pigeons but smaller🐦s need a way out. The pic is just one I saw on Amazon🇺🇸. Sure there are others.
Hello thank you so much for the in depth answer to my question. I'll need to find the most appropriate one for my balcony size, both material and weight will be considered. I've got plenty of lil stones for the wee birds as well. Until then, I put out a lil cup on both sides of my house for em
No, ours don’t do that. But we call ours ‘coneheads’ because their beaks look like traffic cones. We have a small garden so just one dominant pair nests here per year. The new males always get nicknamed things like ‘conehead the magnificent’ or ‘conehead brightbeak’ etc. 😂
